PULAU UBIN PROJECT

For this project, a large majority involved travelling to Pulau Ubin and figuring out the residents' needs. We did this by interacting with the locals and conducting various surveys and activities. This helped us to develop our ideas and designs to better suit the residents in Pulau Ubin. The final design goal was to encourage social cohesion between residents of the island.

THE UBIN LINK

This was my final design proposal for the community center. It was designed as a way to encourage social cohesion among locals, give them a space to belong, as well as bring in more tourists and newcomers to the island. The special feature of this community center was the large hall that could be used for movie screenings, cultural performances as well as to be utilised as a wedding spot.

HOTEL ROOM PRIMER

Before embarking on designing an actual hotel, we had a short primer project that tasked us with designing a hotel room for a specific user. I was assigned the 'loner' persona, and I created a hotel room that made the user feel like they were far away from others, however close enough to interact with the outside world. The room featured a miniature planetarium as well as an all-glass viewing deck.

Boat Quay Hotel Project

The class was split into 2 sites for this project. I was assigned the site that was sandwiched between 2 shophouses and overlooked both the Singapore River and Circular Road. We were tasked to design a hotel that fit well into the site and brought a special programme to Boat Quay. The hotel had to accomodate 40 people.

My final design proposal for the hotel project was a hotel that was inspired by modern art and aimed to bring an artistic hub to Boat Quay. The hotel was aimed towards middle-class travellers and featured an art gallery as well as a rooftop sculpture garden to carry out activities like painting and sculpting. The building incorporated greenery into its facade as well.
